ORGANIZATIONS
Philippine Women Centre of Ontario PWC, founded in 2000, is a non-profit community based organization that advances the rights and welfare of Filipino women. By sharing our experiences and identifying common issues, we saw the urgent need to empower and strengthen ourselves. Through self-organization and collective effort, we address our issues and root causes of Filipino women’s intensifying marginalization and commodification in Canada and in the Philippines. SIKLAB-Ontario (Advance the Rights and Welfare of Oversea Filipino Workers) Founded in 2005, SIKLAB stands for ‘Sulong, Itaguyod Ang Karapatan Ng Mga Manggagawang Pilipino Sa Labas Ng Bansa!’ It comes from the realization of migrant workers that they can empower and strengthen themselves only through their own self-organization and collective effort. By acting in cooperation with other groups, SIKLAB believes it can effectively fight for the right and welfare of migrant workers in Canada and the Philippines. email us at siklab-on@magkaisacentre.org
Ugnayan Ng Kabataang Pilipino Sa Canada/Filipino Canadian Youth Alliance-Ontario (UKPC/FCYA-ON) UKPC met through the assistance of the Philippine Women Centre. By sharing our experiences, we were able to identify common issues we faced such as racism, exploitation at work, and our right to education. We realized there was a need to organize into a pro-people Filipino youth group to tackle these issues. UKPC/FCYA-On is the result of dynamism of Filipino youth and our desire to build a strong and united Filipino community that reflects the vision of a genuinely just and free society where marginalized people are no longer exploited and oppressed.
